About Tina Stephen - The WDN Sage
In 1996, Tina Stephen embarked on her journey to become a website designer by enrolling in a Desktop Publishing & Graphic Design course through a private college in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Upon completion of that course, she continued her studies within a web design course in 2000, before taking a leave of absence due to health reasons in 2001.
Despite her declining health, Tina continued to pursue her goal of becoming a web designer by taking her studies in her own hands. With the assistance of books, tutorial sites, and after many hours of frustration, her goal became a reality—she took on small freelance pro-bono projects in 2002.
After a brief break in 2003-2004 to bring her son into this world, Tina continued on her journey with taking on small freelance projects.
It was in April of 2006 that she started work on a project of her own to help others learn how to create their own websites. A solution to a large problem that she had stumbled upon during her own studies.
Taking what she learned through her experience with teaching young children how to read and teaching/assisting seniors how to use their computer, WebDesignNewbie was born.
In Her Own Words…
When I started I knew next to nothing about designing websites, other than having a background in Desktop Publishing and Graphic Design. I taught myself how to use Microsoft FrontPage, which I found to be very similar to using Microsoft Word. After I figured out how to use FrontPage, I taught myself about HTML using its HTML tab. That was a feat in itself, however it went better than I thought. My first website was a typical “newbie” site where I had flashing animation, graphics all over the place, and no real content to the pages. From there I evolved to the clean and simple approach to design and layout that you’ll find within all my web designs today.
